Hi,
I refer to the information about Joseph Schantz (1749-1813) in HERITAGE - Famous Swiss in US - Settlement.
Does anybody know what is the source that Joseph Schantz lived in Konolfingen (or is it a place near Konolfingen), did he go directly to USA or did he live at other places in Europa (Alsace??) before. He was, as far as I know Anabaptist.
Thanks to the wonderful team at the NYC consulate (thanks Lukas!), the little league team of Watertown put on the Swiss jersey and played with it to celebrate the opening game of the Euro 08. The action was fast and the team liked the jersey so much that they wore it again the next weekend. In the meantime, the parents kept asking the Swiss coach about the results of his team back home!!
In 1911 my Swiss grandparents came from Hergiswil, Willisau to America. Siegfried and Katherine Scharli came over on La Provence, a ship out of France, and came into Ellis Island. They settled in Monroe Wisconsin where grandpa got a job as a cheesemaker. His brother John was already living there. He had come to America 2 years earlier, I guess to check things out, and then went back for his wife, Katherine
